Hunting at O'Vita

Trophy hunting has been offered on Ovita since 1963 and since 1980 Ovita has been purely a game farm. The 10.000 ha farm does not have interior fencing but a boundary fence. All 20 game species offered for hunting (see list of trophies) were born and have grown up on the farm. Since 2008 we offer bow hunting too. Fair chase is of utmost importance to us. Our experienced Professional Hunter (rifle and bow) will make the hunting safari an unforgettable experience.

Hunting takes place from hides and on stalking walks according to the hunter’s preference. Since emphasis is put on exclusivity and individual service, we only accept a maximum of 4 hunters per stay (2 x 2 : 1). Trophies are cleaned on Ovita and then taken to the taxidermist or a forwarding agent of the guest’s choice. Transport airport - farm - airport is included in our daily rate - see list of trophies. Hunters who do not bring their own rifle can rent one on Ovita: There are 2 different rifles available: A Mauser with hair-trigger 7 x 57 mm and a Holland Holland 375.

Hunting season lasts from 1st February till 30th November. The months from June to November are best suited for hunting. Hunting is difficult at the beginning of the year due to the abundance of “open water” in the veld (if it has rained!) and because the animals do not move around much under these conditions, in other words, they may be difficult to spot since they are not eager to go to water points.

Additional activities
On days without hunting activities or for non-hunting accompanying guests we offer excursions to the surrounding area, e.g., to the dinosaur footprints in the North, the Hot Springs of Groß Barmen near Okahandja or to Wellness Farm Omburo near Omaruru. On request, we can arrange flight safaris taking visitors into the wide open spaces of the Namib desert or to the Himba people living in the North of the country.
